The Celebrity 100 factors in estimated earnings over a 12-month period, how many times a celebrity is mentioned in print and on TV/radio, "social networking power" across platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, and an "impact ranking" to indicate how much of an impact a celebrity has had on the "entertainment industry and our culture overall". The data is processed through an algorithm to create a celebrity's power ranking, with earnings carrying the most weight. The celebrities are finally divided into categories (musicians, actors, sports personalities, etc.) and a certain number of celebrities from each category make the final list.

Trivia: In October 2014, Houston's News92 (USA) laid off 47 employees and was rebranded as B921, a Beyoncé-only radio station playing the singer's music 24 hours a day without DJs or commercials.
