The highest level of UV solar radiation ever recorded on Earth is a 43.3 UVI (Ultra Violet Index) registered by astrobiologists from USA and Germany, at the Bolivian section of the Licancabur Volcano, in Potosi, Bolivia, on 29 December 2003.
The team of astrobiologists was formed by: Nathalie Cabrol (from SETI), Uwe Feister, Donat-Peter Hader, Helmut Piazena, Edmond Grin and Andreas Klein. In the UV Index, a level above 11 indicates 'extreme risk of harm'.
