According to the 2022 PFC40 – an index that tracks the Top 40 most sought-after celebrity autographs currently traded on the open market, compiled by Paul Fraser Collectibles (UK) since 2000 – the most valuable signature is that of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs (USA), which can fetch £50,000 ($60,290) as of 2022. Factors contributing to the high price include Jobs's dislike of signing his autograph, his death at a young age and the legendary status of his company.

PFC base their index on "an evaluation of the market value for a fully authenticated, best quality signed photo (unless otherwise stated), based on close monitoring of dealer and auction sales. A 'best quality' example will feature a photograph in superb condition, depicting the subject in their most famous era, with a sharp, clear signature acquired during that period."

Less than 1 in 100 is considered "best quality". The most expensive signature would be Shakespeare's, but it's not typically traded.
