Bartolomeo da Varignana trained in medicine at the University of Bologna, where a statue was erected at the anatomical theatre of the palace of the Archiginnasio. Following the creation of the University of Perugia in 1308, he taught medicine with famous 14th-century physicians Tommaso del Garbo and Gentile da Foligno.
