Argentina won two penalty shoot-outs at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar (vs the Netherlands in the quarter-finals and France in the final) to take their overall tally to six. They had previously won two in 1990 (vs Yugoslavia in the quarter-finals and Italy in the semi-finals), one in 1998 (vs England in the Round of 16) and one in 2014 (vs the Netherlands in the semi-finals).
Argentina’s only shoot-out defeat to date came in 2006, in a quarter-final tie against Germany.
The first World Cup penalty shoot-out took place at the 1982 World Cup.
