On 28 November 1967 British astronomers Jocelyn Bell Burnell and Antony Hewish discovered the first known pulsar, a rapidly rotating remnant left over by a supernova. The pulsar emitted radio signals every 1.33 seconds and its discoverers, unable to prove initially that it was a natural phenomenon, named the object "LGM-1", with "LGM" standing for "Little Green Men". We now know that pulsars are indeed entirely natural objects in the universe.
The pulsar now has a more modern name of PSR B1919+21.
