The oldest player to appear in the UEFA Europa League is Brad Friedel (USA, b. 18 May 1971), who aged 42 years 305 days, played for Tottenham Hotspur against Benfica at Estadio da Luz in Lisbon, Portugal, on 20 March 2014. Friedel had first set the record in the earlier rounds in November 2013 against Sheriff Tiraspol when he made his first appearance of the season, displacing FC Twente's goalkeeper Sander Boschker, who was 42 years 33 days old in his final appearance.
