The longest tram route is The Kusttram (Coast Tram) service that operates along the Belgian coast from Knokke in the north to De Panne in the south – a distance of 68 km (42 miles).

The Kusttram (Coast Tram), now operated by "De Lijn" (a public transport operator throughout the Flemish part of Belgium), is the longest tram route in the world. It runs from Knokke, close to the Dutch border, hugging the coast for most of the way, to the village of De Panne near the French border. It passes through several resort towns. At Ostende, almost exactly halfway, the route number changes from "1" at the north end to "2" for the remainder of the journey southwards; this may be due to operating regulations regarding when a fare stage route becomes a long-distance service. It is the same tram, with the same crew, and there is no layover at Ostende.
