The fastest time to win the horse racing Grand National race is 8 minutes 47.8 seconds and was achieved by Mr Frisk ridden by Marcus Armytage (UK) at Aintree Race Course, Aintree, Merseyside, UK, on 7 April 1990. Mr Frisk was 16/1 before the race but was a popular choice due to the firm conditions that day. His jockey Marcus Armytage was an amateur rider and also worked as a Racing Post correspondent. He is the last amateur rider to win the Grand National. In 2013, the course length was reduced from 4 miles and 4 furlongs to 4 miles and 3.5 furlongs, yet Mr Frisks record remained intact. The previous record had been set by Red Rum, ridden by Brian Fletcher, in 1973.
