The first and so far only curling bridge in the world is the “Rolling Bridge” at Paddington Basin in London, UK. Designed by Heatherwick Studio and completed in 2004, the wood and steel pedestrian bridge uses hydraulic rams to curl its eight segments like a scorpion’s tail. When closed it forms an octagon, and when extended it reaches 12.9 m across a canal inlet.
