The youngest person to achieve a MotoGP pole position is Fabio Quartararo (France, b. 20 April 1999) who aged 20 years and 14 days, when he achieved pole position at the 2019 Spanish MotoGP, in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, on 4 May 2019.
Despite becoming the youngest person to gain pole position, Quartararo had to retire from the race after a gearbox failure. The race would finish with an all Spanish podium on home soil as compatriots Marc Márquez, Álex Rins and Maverick Viñales made up the top 3.
