The most lawn bowls clubs played in 24 hours is 10, and was achieved by Jonathan Lee Cochrane (South Africa), in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa, on 19 October 2024.
Jonathan believes that lawn bowls is one of the best kept secrets in South African sport. He has been playing for almost 10 years and hopes this record attempt will draw more awareness to the sport and generate some hype. He feels passionately about this being an inclusive sport for all age ranges and abilities.
Jonathan managed to achieve the record despite setbacks including getting on the wrong bus and blisters from hours of walking. The clubs he visited are: Fish Hoek, Bergvliet, Meadowridge, Plumstead, WPCC, The Glen, Fresnaye, Milnerton, Sunningdale, and Edgemead Bowls Club.
When he arrived at the 10th club he was welcomed by family and friends with many club members cheering him on. His final game was played against the President of Edgemead Bowls Club, marked by the youngest member of Edgemead Bowls Club, and umpired by Anina Black of Western Province Technical Officials.
This record had previously gone unbroken for over ten years. Jonathan is proud to bring this title to South Africa.
