Following stereoscope 3D came the advent of 3D films. The first successful screening of a 3D feature film was Nat Deverich's five-reel melodrama The Power of Love, starring Terry O'Neil and Barbara Bedford. It premiered at the Ambassador Hotel Theater in Los Angeles, USA, on 27 September 1922. Produced by Perfect Pictures in an anaglyphic process developed by Harry K Fairall, it related the adventures of a young sea captain in California in the 1840s. Sadly, all copies of this landmark film have been lost. The Power of Love was the first vision of a new world in movies that has culminated in blockbuster 3D films such as Avatar.
