Most critically acclaimed Mario videogame

In 2017, the intrepid Italian plumber Mario Mario went on a global adventure in Super Mario Odyssey (Nintendo). As of 12 June 2025, the 3D platformer had a near-perfect score of 97 out of 100 on review aggregation website Metacritic. Out of reviews from 114 critics, 56 of them were perfect 100s.

The most recent Mario game, Mario Kart World (Nintendo, 2025), was a launch title for the Switch 2 console. It earned a respectable score of 87 on Metacritic. Super Mario Galaxy (Nintendo, 2007) and Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Nintendo, 2010) both also have Metascores of 97, but from fewer critic reviews, which is why Super Mario Odyssey pips them to the post.
