As of 18 June 2014, the most expensive in-app item was available in Peter Molyneux's experimental game Curiosity - What's inside the Cube? (22Cans, 2012). Launched in November 2012, the game invited players to chip away at a big block, each layer unveiling something new and the promise of a life-changing experience for the person who finally unlocked the secret at its centre. Players could increase their tapping power by a factor of 100,000 by purchasing a Diamond Chisel for 3 billion in-game coins, costing an eye-watering £47,000 ($75,000) in real-world money.
After seven months and 69 billion individual blocks, the final layer was unveiled by Bryan Henderson from Edinburgh, Scotland. Bryan won the chance to be a God in 22Can’s game Godus and a share of the game’s profits. Godus was released on the iOS on 7 August 2014.
