The Abraj Al Bait Towers complex in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, is designed to house 65,000 people. The largest of the towers, the 120-floor Hotel Tower, is 601 m (1,972 ft) tall and has a floor space (Gross Floor Area, GFA) of 310,638 m² (3,343,680 ft²). The entire development has a GFA of 1,575,815 m² (16,961,931 ft²) – the largest for a non-industrial endowment – and has the largest capacity for human habitation, comprising primarily of residences and hotel rooms.
There are other buildings with a larger floor area, such as the Pentagon with 620,000 m² (6,636,360 ft² of floor area for c.30,000 staff) and numerous sporting and concert arenas can potentially accommodate more people, but the Abraj Al Bait Towers has the largest residential capacity.
