Between 1501 and 1866, 12,521,336 people were forcibly transported from Africa to the Americas. A similar number of people may have been transported to Arabian countries but, unlike the forced Trans-Atlantic migration, there are no written records to support this claim. The peak year for forced migration was 1829, when 117,644 African men, women and children embarked for the Americas. Of these, 11,714 (almost one in ten) failed to disembark on arrival. The last slave ship to travel to the Americas arrived in 1867.
