The world's first (and so far only) shopping mall to be shaped like a volcano is the appropriately named Vulcano Buono, opened in 2007 in Nola, and near to Mount Vesuvius, Italy. Designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano, this 320-m-wide "good volcano" contains 155 shops, cinema, hotel and restaurants, while the 150-m-wide "crater" holds an outdoor theatre, market and pine trees.
