First banner ad

The first banner ads were launched on 27 October 1994 on the HotWired website, an early off-shoot of Wired magazine. In total 14 of the clickable 468 x 60-pixel ads were launched that day, for companies such as MCI, Volvo, Club Med, 1-800-Collect and Zima, although the ad for AT&T that was included in the batch is believed to have been the first ever seen online. The AT&T ad featured the copy “Have you ever clicked your mouse right here? You will.”
