The USA’s Gerald R Ford Class aircraft carriers will ultimately replace the Nimitz class carriers, the last of which, the USS H.W. George Bush, was commissioned for the US Navy in 2009. The first of the new class, the USS Gerald R Ford, has hull number CVN-78 and is scheduled to be delivered in November 2016, followed by the PCU John F. Kennedy (CVN 79), which is in construction and to be placed in commission in 2020. The dimensions and mass will be similar to the Nimitz class, with a length of around 332.85 m (1,092 ft), a beam of around 40.84 m (134 ft) and a fully loaded displacement of around 101,000 metric tons (223,000,000 lb).
