The furthest camera from Earth (at least, the furthest one built by human beings!) is aboard NASA’s Voyager 1 spacecraft – which, as of January 2013, was 18.5 billion km from our planet. The spaceprobe, launched in 1977, actually carries on board two cameras – collectively known as the Imaging Science System. Voyager 1 is presently in the "heliosheath", the outer boundary separating our Solar System from the wilds of interstellar space. The probe is expected to leave the Solar System by 2015 - becoming the first manmade object to do so, taking with it the first ever "interstellar" camera.
