The NBA record for most free throws attempted by an individual in a game is 39 by Dwight Howard (USA) while playing for the Orlando Magic in a 117-109 victory over the Golden State Warriors (both USA) on 12 January 2012. Howard, who converted 21 of the 39 attempts, surpassed the previous mark of 34 attempts set by Wilt Chamberlain for the Philadelphia Warriors against the St. Louis Hawks on 22 February 1962.
Dwight Howard later equalled his own record of 39 while playing for the Los Angeles Lakers on 12 March 2013.
