Computer worms are a form of malware designed to spread over computer networks, including the internet. The first worm to spread extensively in the wild was the Morris worm, created by Robert Tappan Morris (USA), then a student at Cornell University, USA. On 2 November 1988 Morris released his worm, which went on to disable roughly 10% of all computers connected to the internet which, at the time, was around 60,000 machines.
