Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings (both USA) won a record 21 consecutive Olympic beach volleyball matches between 2004 and 2012, in which time they claimed gold medals at Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012 to preserve their remarkable unbeaten run at the Olympic Games. The pair, who won 42 sets and lost just one in their Olympic careers, defeated Jennifer Kessy and April Ross (both USA) 21-16, 21-16 in the final at Horse Guards Parade, London, UK, on 8 August 2012 to become the first beach volleyball team, male or female, to win three Olympic titles.
May-Treanor and Walsh Jennings lost their first and only set in Olympic competition (42 sets won, 1 lost) on 1 August 2012 when Austria's Doris and Stefanie Schwaiger took the first set of their group match, 21-17.
In 2008, the pair took a three-year break after becoming the first team (male or female) to retain an Olympic title. After the London final on 8 August 2012, May-Treanor announced her retirement.
Among their many other achievements, May-Treanor and Walsh set an all-time record by winning 112 consecutive domestic and international beach volleyball matches between 24 August 2007 and 31 August 2008. The pair also won 89 matches in a row from 5 July 2003 to 6 June 2004, the second best winning streak ever. See record ID 69468.
