Ecobot III was created in 2010 by scientists at the Bristol Robotics Laboratory (University of the West of England and University of Bristol), UK. It is a robot powered by organic matter which, along with water, it can collect itself from its environment. The organic matter, which can include human waste, is digested by an array of 48 onboard microbial fuel cells in order to generate electricity. The organic waste products from this process then are excreted by the robot.
