220,000 tickets for The Stone Roses’ three comeback gigs at Manchester’s Heaton Park (both UK) on 29 and 30 June and 1 July 2012 sold out in 68 minutes when they went on sale on 21 October 2011. 150,000 tickets for the first two concerts were snapped up in just 14 minutes from 9:30 a.m.; 70,000 tickets for the third date were made available at 10 a.m. due to popular demand and sold out in 38 minutes as word filtered out. The event grossed more than £12 million in ticket sales.
The gigs are scheduled to feature the ‘Madchester’ band’s classic line-up: Ian Brown, John Squire, Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield and Alan ‘Reni’ Wren. The Stone Roses originally split up in 1996. A world tour and a new album will follow the Heaton Park dates.
On 31 October 2008, Take That sold 600,000 tickets in five hours for their Circus tour (attempt ID 114057), and on 29 October 2010 they sold 1.3 million tickets for a 25-date tour of the UK and Ireland in one day (attempt ID 125465). Note that both these records were for tours, which sets them apart from the Stone Roses’ achievement (i.e. this is a new category).
