Various vehicles have been constructed to protect heads of state, businessmen and senior military personnel. The fastest yet is the Kombat T-98, which is a four-wheel-drive armoured VIP transport built by Kombat Armouring, a subsidiary of Laura Group, in St Petersburg, Russia. It has an 8.1-litre, 340bhp Vortec V8 engine, which enables the vehicle to reach a speed of 111 mi/h (180 km/h). The degree of protection that the vehicle offers can be varied according to requirements. For example, it can be equipped with gun ports and a machine gun. Its reported cost is around $138,000 (£89,000) but anti-tank armour would cost approximately $100,000 (£64,700) extra.
