Manchester charity creates world’s largest tutu for breast cancer awareness month

Manchester-based charity Prevent Breast Cancer and bus company Stagecoach joined forces to celebrate the start of breast cancer awareness month by creating the world’s Largest ballet tutu.

 

Designed by custom clothing manufacturer Fight Label, the enormous pink tutu measured 26.26 metres (86 ft 1.8 in) – big enough to fit round a double-decker bus – and was unveiled to the public in Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester last week.

 

 

This particular record was chosen to shine a spotlight on Prevent Breast Cancer’s “Take on the Tutu” fundraising campaign, which encourages people to don the traditional ballet garment and donate money to the research charity.

 

Official Guinness World Records adjudicator Sofia Greenacre was on hand to announce the impressive new record and present a certificate to the organisers.

 

 

On the team’s incredible achievement, Stagecoach Manchester Managing Director, Christopher Bowles said: “We decided to create something unique to capture the imagination of local people and to get them thinking about how they can help the fight against a disease which affects too many people.”

 

“Our staff voted to support Prevent Breast Cancer as our chosen charity last year and the whole workforce has shown a great deal of support towards the charity over the past twelve months and will continue to do so moving forwards. We now have a Guinness World Records title for our efforts, but the most important thing from this attempt is to continue to help spread the message that the fight against breast cancer continues,” he added.

 

Co-founder of Prevent Breast Cancer, Lester Bar, commented: “Hopefully the public who have seen our event this morning will be inspired to ‘Take on the Tutu’ themselves.”
