A determined group of people in India came together to form the tallest human pyramid the world has ever seen.

And it’s incredibly impressive.

Kokan Nagar Govinda Pathak and Sanskruti Yuva Pratisthan Trust broke the record by making it to 10 levels at a massive public event in Thane, Maharashtra, on 16 August.

The group became the first ever to get their pyramid to level 10.

It was a special date – Dahi Handi – a Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Krishna.

Traditionally, communities take part in a competitive event that sees a clay pot filled with yoghurt, butter or another milk-based product hung up at a tall height.

Teams of people then form human pyramids to try and reach or break the pot.

The pyramid formed on this day broke the record of nine levels that had stood for decades.

The title was shared between India and Spain for many years with groups in each country working together to reach the height.

This new record-breaking pyramid measured 14.73 metres (48 ft 3.92 in).

That’s as high as a three-storey building.

It’s an example of not just strength and determination, but also a sensational display of teamwork… which in this case, absolutely did make the dream work.

With a massive crowd around them offering support and ready to catch anyone who may fall, the crew huddled into tight circles with their arms around each other’s shoulders to form sturdy levels.

Others would then climb up to stand on their shoulders and form another level, with the final four consisting of single people.

Watching the pyramid come together is truly awe-inspiring.

The levels of trust they put into one another is incredible, as just one wrong move or stumble could cause the whole thing to come crashing down, and it would be easy for people to get hurt.

Only the person at the very top – the never-before-seen 10th level – wore a helmet and was strapped to a safety line.

It was a good job too, because after standing upright, they managed to maintain their balance for just a few seconds before falling.

Luckily, they were attached to a nearby crane and were caught and hoisted to safety as the rest of the pyramid crumbled.

It does look a little bit painful, but judging by the way everyone celebrates, no one was hurt and they’re all very happy to have broken the record.

The Sanskruti Yuva Pratishthan Dahi Handi, founded under the leadership of Shri Pratap Sarnaik and Purvesh Parisha Pratap Sarnaik, is a very prestigious Dahi Handi festival.

A representative of the event told us: “This extraordinary feat symbolized not only unmatched physical endurance and balance but also showcased the spirit of teamwork, discipline, and Maharashtra’s age-old Govinda tradition.

“The 10-tier pyramid stood as a living monument of courage and unity, achieved under immense crowd energy and cultural fervour.

“The record-breaking performance of Kokan Nagar Govinda Pathak reaffirmed Thane’s place as the epicentre of this glorious tradition, elevating Dahi Handi to the international stage with a Guinness World Records-certified achievement.”
