Eye see your tattoos! Ocular-obsessed Colorado man gets 100 eyeballs inked on his body

A man from Edgewater, Colorado, USA has expanded his un-eye-maginable eyeball ink collection this month, after adding 35 tattoos to his sleeves and rounding-out his unique record with 100 tattoos.
Chadwyck Minson (USA) had his eyes on the prize – and last year, he obtained a Guinness World Records title for the most eyeballs tattooed on the body (male), for the 65 eyeballs dotting his legs and arms.
But when Chadwyck returned to the Nocturnal Tattoo shop in Denver, Colorado, he was talking to the owner and artist Stoke Lucero, and couldn’t resist the thought of adding more to his incredible collection.
“After I got the 65 eyeballs tattooed, I came in to get another tattoo, and I was like, 'Why don't we just add another 35 and make it an even 100 eyeballs?'” Chadwyck said to Westword.
“And I'm always ready to do more!” said Stoke.
Together, the pair designed a way to incorporate 35 more designs on to Chadwyck’s skin, including orbs that curled around his knee and constellations of eyes across his arms.
And on 22 March, Chadwyck took home his new and updated Guinness World Records title for his amazing artwork – an accomplishment he was stoked to share with Stoke.
The duo first met when Stoke did Chadwyck’s back tattoo in 2018, and soon began trading ideas about a sprawling eyeball-themed sleeve that took several years under the needle to create.
“He’s a pretty open-minded tattoo collector, so he has a lot of cool, creative ideas, and that’s how we got started on the eyeball leg sleeve,” said Stoke. “Chad originally had some other tattoo on his leg, and we were trying to figure out a way to incorporate that into a sleeve. I came up with the idea for the eyeballs.”
“When you look back in history and culture, eyes were used to protect or ward off evil spirits,” Chadwyck explained.
“Then, I’m a Reiki master teacher, so I work with people’s energies and stuff like that, so we do a lot of stuff with animals,” he continued. “I wanted to figure out a way to portray the animals that are special to me.”
“Once we figured out the eyeballs, I asked Stoke to incorporate them in such a way that some of the surrounding stuff around the eye would reveal what it was.”
The end result was a massive piece of art spotted with dozens of unique, peering eyeballs in different styles – including orbs from animals and humans, abstract and ancient symbols, and all sorts of colours and designs.
“One of the challenges is getting the eyes to be different,” said Stoke. “I wanted to make it a work of art for him, not just simply trying to beat the world record. So I try to make it a work of art instead of just flat.
“It’s not enough to just break the record – I want it to look good, too.”
Yet Chadwyck loves his personal work of art – and he knows that when he’s out in public, he’s got all eyes on him (pun intended).
“They’re like, ‘Whoa!’” said Chadwyck. “I get stopped at the grocery store, Home Depot or wherever, at least two or three times a week.
“Most of the time, people just want to chat or look at them. People often ask, ‘What made you do it?’ and that type of stuff.”
And even though he’s happy with his record-breaking collection, Chadwyck says there’s always another tattoo that he’s eyeing.
“I always have stuff I want to get tattooed,” he said. “But the trouble is trying to find space for them, because I’m getting kind of low on real estate.”
