Social media chefs team up to cook largest scotch egg that's heavier than a bowling ball

A pair of social media foodies teamed up to create the largest scotch egg the world has ever seen!
The monster snack weighs in at a scale-tipping 7.81 kg (17 lb 3.48 oz) and was cooked up by Phoenix Ross and Oli Paterson (both UK), in Enfield, UK, on 17 June.
That’s heavier than a bowling ball (7.25 kg; 16 lb)!
The duo smashed the record of 6.2 kg (13 lb 10 oz) that had stood for almost 20 years!
And the content creators worked hard for it, with their first attempt quite literally falling apart at the final hurdle as they tried to lift it out of the fryer.
The meaty treat had to be made in the exact same way as the regular-sized version to qualify for the record and the yolk had to be fully intact when the scotch egg was cut open.
While the first one went a little wrong, thankfully the boys’ second attempt was egg-cellent… sorry, we had to.
Phoenix and Oli used an ostrich egg to form the basis of their scotch egg – of course, it was the only one big enough for the job!
The egg had to be hard boiled, wrapped in sausage meat then covered in bread crumbs and deep fried.
And the ostrich egg shell was so sturdy they needed a hammer to crack it open.
“Oh my god, it’s beautiful,” they laughed as they wrapped their scotch egg in meat.
After their first attempt failed, the boys went through the whole process again, slightly changing their tactics to learn from what had previously gone wrong.
Then while it was frying, they got to work on some regular-sized ones they could serve up on the side for comparison.
After the frying was complete, Oli and Phoenix weighed their eggy treat before cutting it up with a literal sword (well, you try finding a knife big enough) and rolling it up into burritos to freeze for later.
But not before taking big bites out of it themselves.
Adjudicator Emma Salt measured the width of the egg [11.5 cm] and the thickness of the meat [6 cm] used to create the monster product.
The circumference of the scotch egg whole was 79.5 cm.
Now that’s a whopper!
Fun fact: The ostrich egg holds the record for the largest egg produced by any living bird. The average example measures 6–8 in (15–20 cm) in length, 4–6 in (10–15 cm) in diameter and weighs 3 lb 10 oz–3 lb 14 oz (1.65–1.78 kg) – equal to the volume of two dozen hen's eggs.
It also holds the record for toughest egg produced by a bird - it can withstand the weight of a 115-kg (253-lb 8-oz) person. And surprisingly, it's the smallest egg relative to body weight. This is because its egg’s weight is only 1.4-1.5% of the ostrich’s total weight
