Jerry the clever sausage dog turns passion for removing bottle caps into world record

Jerry the dachshund has a very unique talent – and he’s a great guy to have around when it’s time to sort the recycling.

The four-year-old pooch, who lives in Texas, USA, with his owner Sathya Priya Easwaran, loves nothing more than taking the caps off plastic bottles.

Finding a way to celebrate his unusual skill, Sathya organized it so he could break the record for most plastic bottle caps removed by a dog in one minute. He managed 11, the clever sausage!

And to make it even more special, he did the attempt on his fourth birthday – 22 June.

“There were no practice sessions at all,” Sathya said. “This is an in-built quality that Jerry enjoys doing every time that we give him bottles. He just did it without any special practice.

“He is so focussed. He challenges himself and he can just nail it when a task is given to him.”

Jerry’s passion for removing bottle caps started as a game but quickly turned into a passion and his favourite pastime.

Soon, his family started collecting as many bottles as they could to bring home for Jerry to enjoy.

Sathya explained: “He just wants a lot of challenges, a lot of tasks to accomplish, it’s motivation for him and he keeps doing it non-stop.”

Sathya said of him: “He’s very loyal, he’s very focussed.

“I always wanted to have a dog and from the day he was with us, he has been such a joy.”

She added: “This was a very special moment for us and especially because we were able to make this attempt on his fourth birthday.

“It’s not a dream that came true, but beyond that.

“We are super excited and together we want to bring this message to the world – each of us has something special and unique that we can exemplify and we can always become an inspiration to others.”

Jerry would have been very good friends with Tubby, who broke the record for most bottles recycled by a dog.
