Clever horse Rusty transformed his life by learning tricks after rescue from 'kill pen'

Learning how to do tricks transformed horse Rusty’s life after he was rescued from a ‘kill pen’.

Megan Reimann (USA) saved him as a young horse, but he was dangerous to handle and had a habit of running people over, as well as biting.

“Nobody wanted him,” Megan said.

Now transformed, Rusty has claimed the record for most tricks performed by a horse in three minutes with an impressive total of 33.

What a good boy.

Megan, who lives in Nebraska, said: “When Rusty came to live with me we used tricks to teach him how to behave politely, and safely. Now Rusty is an accomplished trick horse who would love to show the world what a once thrown-away horse is capable of!”

Rusty can do everything from classics like spin, stay and fist bump to more complex tricks like playing piano, painting, and waving a flag.

And when asked by Megan if he enjoys performing tricks, he gives an enthusiastic nod.

Megan, 46, said: “He had a lot of fun during our attempts. There were lots of people here to look at him and give him the attention he deserves.

“Rusty thinks he’s a puppy dog, or a slightly large hairy human and loves having people around looking at him and paying attention to him.”

When he’s not putting on shows, Rusty spends his days running through the cornfields and helping his mom with chores around the house, like taking in the washing.

“I thought he did a very good job at it, I was very proud of him,” Megan said.

“He was proud of him too.”

Rusty did 34 tricks in the three minutes, but stepped off the teeter totter before he was all the way across it, so that one was disqualified.

He didn’t mind though, and celebrated his new record by giving Megan a big sloppy kiss so powerful it knocked her sunglasses off.
