If you haven’t heard of Minecraft, you must be living under a rock (pun intended).

But don’t worry, these passionate crafters are here to tell you all about the Herobrine history.

Minecraft has a passionate following in Mexico, and to celebrate their love for the game (and in anticipation of blockbuster A Minecraft Movie’s release, last Friday), hundreds of fans took to the streets in Mexico City on 16 November 2024 while dressed as the titular character Steve.

794 people showed up in costume, making this a new world record for largest gathering of people dressed as Steve (Minecraft)!

Hundreds of Steves

Participants were required to dress as Steve, which meant wearing a large, square, pixelated head with dark brown hair and blue eyes, a light blue shirt, a pair of blue jeans, as well as carrying a prop such as a pixelated pickaxe or sword.

The event was hosted by Xbox Mexico, who said it was “a celebration of the creativity, fun, and camaraderie that Minecraft inspires in its community.”

“If one word can describe the great Minecraft community in Mexico, it would be: Passion,” they said. “Every year, fans create displays of affection for this video game, so Xbox has decided to embark on an exciting adventure to break a Guinness World Records title for the most people dressed as Steve, the iconic Minecraft character.

“This initiative is a celebration of the popular video game and an acknowledgement of the vibrant and passionate Minecraft community in Mexico, who deserve the opportunity to show their love for this game that has positively impacted so many people.”

Fans had a great time gathering at the iconic Plaza de la República in central Mexico City, where they met up with other like-minded Steves, took photos with pals, and enjoyed all the hospitality Xbox had to offer.

Looks like loads of fun, guys – keep building new worlds and friendships!
