At 68, Indian car designer Sudhakar Kanyaboyina has achieved what most car enthusiasts can only dream of: transforming his childhood dream into a record-breaking reality.

Located in Hyderabad, India, Sudhakar's kaleidoscopic Sudha Cars Museum presents an extraordinary experience that attracts tourists from all over the world.

The collection boasts the title of the world’s largest collection of wacky vehicles in a museum, entering the ranks of Guinness World Records 2025 for its assortment of bizarre vehicles.

“Achieving a record title for having the largest number of wacky cars in a museum is an exhilarating and deeply fulfilling experience,” the record holder explains.

Continuously researching new and incredible vehicles, this isn’t the first world record for the eclectic inventor.

In 2005, he broke the world record for the largest tricycle in the world: an incredible creation that stood at an overall height of 12.67 m (41 ft 7 in). That would be as tall as an average T-rex!

The giant tricycle measured a wheel diameter of 5.18 m (17 ft), as lofty as a giraffe. In fact, Forest, the tallest giraffe ever, is 5.7 m (18 ft 8 in) tall.

“We were inspired by the recognition and decided to apply again,” Sudhakar shares, looking back at that first recognition.

The previous achievement gave us the confidence and motivation to aim for new heights and showcase our capabilities to achieve a Guinness World Records title once again.

Holding a second hallowed certificate gives Sudhakar a deep sense of validation. The road until this point was full of dreams, hopes, and challenges, and now the creative businessman can say for the second time that his creations are officially amazing.

He adds that breaking a record fills him with personal satisfaction.

“It's a moment of immense pride and joy, knowing that my efforts have resulted in a globally recognized accomplishment.”

“The journey towards this achievement has involved dedication, perseverance, and overcoming numerous challenges.”

A professional printer by trade and a commerce graduate, Sudhakar may not be a trained engineer but he works on each project from start to finish.

At the moment of the record's verification, the museum housed 57 individual vehicles; now Sudhakar can boast almost 60 bizarre automobiles to his name, each showcasing his boundless creativity.

The museum's collection features cars shaped like all kinds of objects: from vintage computers straight out of the 1990s to shoes – sneakers and stilettos – to hamburgers and even toilets!

One of the most popular designs in the museum is a vehicle shaped like a Western commode: an instant fan favourite that never fails to entertain the crowds.

However, a special swan-shaped car seems to have stolen most tourists' hearts.

“Its concept, originating from Britain in 1910, showcases a swan elegantly moving through the water, adorned with dragons and delicate golden lilies,” the record holder explains, adding that creating the ambitious swan was no stroll in the park.

“Crafting it was a significant challenge due to its intricate and detailed design.”

Another standout is the "Basketball Car", which holds a special place in Sudhakar’s heart.

“As a passionate player, this project was particularly special to me,” Sudhakar shares, adding that this particular model also required a lot of hard work, as each bump on the spherical body was carefully made and welded one by one.

My inspiration for creating these vehicles stems from childhood dreams of turning everyday items into wacky cars.

Each car takes up to 12 months to be made, and most of the designs are inspired by Sudhakar’s many interests, like in the case of the basketball car or the ones shaped like different pieces of sports equipment.

Sudhakar is not a trained engineer, but his capable craftsmanship and his eye for detail make each vehicle a vibrant, distinctive gem. He also shares that the most challenging part of this work is “maintaining that high level of detail and precision across every project.”

“It requires patience, dedication, and a keen eye, but the satisfaction of seeing the outcome makes it all worthwhile,” he explains.

In the future, Sudhakar would like to assemble a car shaped like a bridal gown, complete with a majestic veil.

Sudhakar’s love for cars and passion for the unusual becomes evident in every corner of the museum, which has been open for 24 years and draws between 1,000 and 1,500 visitors daily. Schools across India send students to witness the amazing creations, while tourists from around the world can enjoy the originality of the place and marvel at the different designs.

Spotting Sudhakar driving one of his eclectic designs through the busy Indian streets never fails to attract attention, too!

“The Sudha Cars Museum hosts annual road shows in Hyderabad, attracting large crowds,” the record holder explains, adding that they have reached their 18th annual show.

“Children, in particular, are thrilled to see cars shaped like everyday objects parading down the streets.”

What I love most about my work is the attention to detail on each car. I find immense joy in meticulously crafting and perfecting every aspect of my designs, ensuring each vehicle is unique and according to the object we are trying to replicate.

Despite the occasional difficulties and the challenges presented by each design, Sudhakar’s enthusiasm remains undiminished.

“I still feel as excited as a young child when I’m working on a new car,” he admits. “That same enthusiasm still drives me.”

Looking ahead, the ambitious record holder has his eyes set on his next creations and aims to achieve a total of 100 vehicles for his museum.

However, Sudha Cars Museum is not just a collection of eclectic cars: it’s a celebration of inventiveness and creativity, as well as the realization of a childhood dream.

As Sudhakar continues to pursue his dream, turning the ordinary into extraordinary, we can’t wait to see where his record-breaking journey (and his incredible cars!) will take him.
