One Piece cements legendary status as 300th DVD release breaks record

Japanese anime television series One Piece has broken the record for the most DVDs released by a serial anime TV programme.
This anime series is based on the legendary and on-going manga of the same name, authoured by Eiichiro Oda. The manga was already a record breaker, with the most copies published for the same comic book series by a single author, first verified in 2015 and confirmed again in 2022.
The first episode of the anime aired on 20 October 1999, just shy of two years after the beginning of the comic series.
It follows the epic adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, who explores the ocean with his crew of pirates, the Straw Hat Crew, in search of the world's ultimate treasure known as "One Piece" in order to become the next Pirate King.
The first two DVDs of the anime were released by Avex Pictures on 21 February 2001. Ever since, they have been releasing around 12 every year.
Its 300th DVD set, containing episodes 1086-1088 of season 20 "Wano Country", was released on 3 July 2024.
The news of the new record was announced at "ONE PIECE DAY’24" - a massive two-day event that brings together all kinds of One Piece contents.
The official certificate was presented as a surprise in front of main voice casts, including Mayumi Tanaka (Monkey D. Luffy) and Kazuya Nakai (Roronoa Zoro).
