Metro rail enthusiast Shashank Manu (India) has recorded the world’s fastest time to travel to all Hyderabad Metro stations.

Shashank, who works as an academic researcher, visited all 57 stations in 2 hr 41 min, becoming the first holder of this record.

He previously held the record for the fastest time to travel all Delhi Metro stations, a challenge which took much longer (15 hr 22 min).

In addition to promoting the usage of public transport, Shashank undertook this challenge to shine a light on India’s other “world class” metro networks.

He said: “This record is my attempt to persuade those living in India’s mega cities to ditch their cars and to switch to public transport.

“We are blessed with metro networks that are amongst the best in the world.”

The Hyderabad Metro is India’s third-longest metro network, with a daily ridership of approximately half a million people.

It has just three lines, so route planning wasn’t as time-consuming for Shashank as it was when he tackled the “maze” of Delhi’s metro.

To successfully achieve the record, the train must stop at every station on each line, although the challenger does not need to exit the train.

“Hyderabad was a cakewalk for me,” Shashank admitted.

“The network, though small in size, is very modern, efficient and clean. And for a Delhiite like me who is used to a much bigger and busier network, I actually found Hyderabad Metro to be cute!

“Since the entire network runs on elevated tracks, it also gave me a chance to see all the different parts of the city which made me fall in love with Hyderabad as well.”

Shashank plans to continue promoting India’s metro networks by attempting more world records in different cities – and he hopes that others will be inspired to do the same.
