Chris Evans extends record with surprise Deadpool & Wolverine appearance

Chris Evans has extended his record for the most feature film appearances as a Marvel superhero after making a surprise cameo in the newly released Deadpool & Wolverine film.
The 43-year-old actor reprised his role as Johnny Storm aka The Human Torch, a character he last played in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007)¸ four years before he took up the mantle of Captain America.
He has eight credited appearances as Captain America in addition to three as The Human Torch, taking his overall record to 11.
It was Ryan Reynolds – who recently received two Guinness World Records titles of his own – who had the idea to bring back The Human Torch, Evans revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
He said: “He just shot me a text saying, 'Listen, might be a long shot, but would you have any interest in reprising something from 20 years ago?' I said, 'Oh my God! Of course.’
“Honestly, Ryan might be the only guy that I would've done it for because he's just got the Midas touch.
“His self-awareness makes him almost invincible. He makes the joke before the audience gets a chance to make the joke, so if you're going to revisit a character and you have to find a way to make it work, Ryan's humour makes just about everything work, so you feel an automatic sense of safety.”
In the film, Deadpool and Wolverine meet Evans’s character in a place called the “Void”, where Deadpool is surprised (and slightly disappointed) when he realizes that Evans is The Human Torch, not Captain America.
After briefly battling Pyro (played by Aaron Stanford) and being transported as a prisoner in a Mad Max-style convoy, he is gruesomely killed by the film’s antagonist Cassandra Nova (played by Emma Corrin).
Evans said he only had to fly in for a couple of days of filming, describing the job as “pretty easy”.
He also fondly recalled his memories of working on the original Fantastic Four films when he was 23, which he says brought him to “the next level” of his career.
A reboot of the Fantastic Four franchise is currently in the works, with the first instalment, Fantastic Four: First Steps, due to be released in July 2025. Game of Thrones and Narcos star Pedro Pascal is set to play Mr Fantastic, with Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach rounding out the rest of the superhero squad.
