Prolific record breaker chugs litres of 'acidic' lemon and lime juice to reclaim titles

Serial record breaker Andre Ortolf (Germany) gave himself the punishing task of downing a litre of lemon juice AND a litre of lime juice on the same day.
He wanted to reclaim the records he had lost to fellow GWR regular David Rush (USA).
Fighting through the burn, 30-year-old Andre bagged titles for fastest time to drink one litre of lemon juice through a straw in 13.30 seconds and fastest time to drink one litre of lime juice through a straw in 13.51 seconds.
Andre last held the lemon record in 2020 with a time of 16 secs, but briefly lost it to David who did it in 13.53 secs earlier this year.
He made similar improvements to his time for the lime juice record.
Andre also last held that in 2020 with 16.82 secs and had lost it to David earlier this year with 13.99 secs.
But now, Andre is proud to have reclaimed them both.

“I love eating and drinking records and both records fit perfect to me,” he told us.
Giving us an insight into his technique, he added: “With both records, it's very important to pull quickly from the straw. My technique is to swallow as little as possible and just let the juice run down, which saves time.
“During the record, I can block everything out and focus completely and don't really notice what I'm drinking. Afterwards, I notice that my body doesn't want so much lemon juice, but the pain is limited. Maybe my stomach is used to worse with all the eating records.”
Andre estimates he’s broken as many as 500 records over the years, and he currently has more than 100 to his name.

Although eating and drinking records aren’t his only feats – with things like the fastest 100 m wearing ski boots (male) in 13.85 secs – he’s certainly broken a lot of them.
To name but a few:
- Most Christmas stollen eaten in one minute – 336 g (11.85 oz)
- Most jelly (jello) eaten with the hands in one minute - 1,890 g (66.7 oz)
- Most tiramisu eaten in 30 seconds - 815 g (28.7 oz)
- Most wasabi paste eaten in one minute – 610 g (21.5 oz)
- Most mustard eaten from a tube in 30 seconds - 416 g (14.7 oz)
- Most mashed potato eaten in one minute – 1,120 g (39.5 oz)
Andre said of his latest records: “In general, I usually don't have any problems with eating and drinking records. And this time, too, my stomach felt relatively good, but I had a toothache. It only went away after a day.

“Doing both on the same day was probably not the best idea. But I was very motivated that day and had the witnesses there already, so I thought, ‘come on, I'll try it, what could go wrong?’”
Andre admits the lime juice was much harder than the lemon juice, theorizing that perhaps it’s “more acidic”, but with just 0.21 secs difference in the times, he has to be pleased with the results.
He practised for the record attempts a lot, but by chugging water, which was much kinder on his throat.

When asked why he loves breaking records so much, Andre confessed: “That's almost a philosophical question for me.
I think what I love about records is that I can be who I am. I'm living my dream and can show humanity that nothing is impossible if you just believe in yourself. I'm living proof of that.
“I will keep breaking records as long as I enjoy it, but I make no secret of the fact that I want to be the holder of the most world records one day. I also want to break a record on every continent.”
