The creators of a YouTube channel that shows just how cool science can have broken an epic world record.

Manual do Mundo is the leading YouTube channel for science and technology in Latin America, created in 2008 and hosted by journalist Iberê Thenório and Mari Fulfaro.

The channel features videos about curiosities, scientific experiments, recipes, challenges, pranks, magic, origami, short documentaries and more.

On 4 December 2023, the Manual do Mundo team made a gigantic idea come to life in São Paulo, Brazil by creating a special episode on YouTube to tell the story.

The challenge was to carry out a large-scale scientific experiment that would achieve a record title for its sheer complexity, engineering, and size.

The science-loving couple decided to undertake an experiment of enormous proportions and broke the world record for tallest ice lolly (popsicle) stick structure with a measurement of 23.81 metres (78.1 ft).

The most challenging part was to put the tower up. It was too tall and had a lot of fragile connections. It broke three times before we could put it up. And shortly after it fell due to wind. Luckily, the measurements could be done just in time. - Iberê

A team of 16 people were involved in creating this impressive tower.

Manual do Mundo believes in educating its audience through creative and entertaining content that promotes learning, curiosity, and education.

It might seem like breaking a record is something silly, just a joke. But it's much more than that. - Mari

"We had to learn a lot to build this tower. There was a whole engineering study, a production schedule, and figuring out how to transport the tower.

“The achievement is not only reaching the expected result, but it's also about every challenge faced, everything learned along the way until getting there."

Guinness World Records Official Adjudicator, Camila Borenstain, was on site to make sure that the record attempt met the guidelines and specifications.

  • Largest elephant's toothpaste fountain with 275.91 m³ (9,743 ft³ 1,157 in³) verified on 5 December 2019. This record was broken by KiwiCo (USA) in Los Angeles, California, USA, on 24 January 2022 with 342.52 cubic metres (12,095 cubic feet 1676.16 cubic inches).

We are specialized in entertaining educational content, with lots of scientific experiments and closely aligned with the maker culture. - Iberê

The record attempt was an important contribution showing how science can be fun, eco-friendly, professional, and responsible.
