As part of the launch of the Guinness World Records 2012 Edition in Canada, GWR last week presented world figure skating champion Patrick Chan with three certificates for his achievements at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships in Moscow, Russia earlier this year.

Skate Canada, the governing body of figure skating in Canada, hosted a reception in Chan's honour in Toronto where Guinness World Records adjudicator Amanda Mochan presented Chan with his awards, which include:

Highest score in a figure skating short program (men): 93.02, achieved on April 27, 2011

Highest score in a figure skating long program (men): 187.96, achieved on April 28, 2011

Highest total score in a figure skating competition (men): 280.98, achieved on April 28, 2011

Upon presenting the awards, Mochan stated, "On behalf of Guinness World Records, I am thrilled to honor Patrick with three records for his performances at this year's ISU World Figure Skating Championships. Patrick truly embodies the ultimate in what Guinness World Records stands for, which is that hard work, focus, passion and determination can help you achieve your dreams, no matter what they might be."

For his part, Chan was thrilled to accept his new titles, saying, "I am delighted to be part of the Guinness World Records family, which I have followed with great fascination since I was a young child at school."

This may not be the last you hear from Chan. The 2011-2012 figure skating season starts this fall, and Chan is already focusing on breaking his own records by increasing the technical difficulty and artistic merit of his programs. He will next compete at the 2011 Skate Canada International competition in Mississauga, Ontario, held from October 27 to 30, 2011.
