Make no bones about it - a new record has been set for the largest ever gathering of people dressed as skeletons.

A total of 2,018 students donned creepy costumes for the record attempt which took place at Swansea University's Freshers Marquee event on Saturday.

The attempt was organised by fancy dress firm Jokers' Masquerade who provided outfits for each of the participants.

The event shattered the previous record of 197, a benchmark set by the studio audience during a broadcast of UK TV programme The Paul O'Grady Show in 2009.

The record marks the second title held by Jokers' Masquerade, after they successfully set a record for the largest gathering of people dressed as Smurfs in a single venue in June, 2009.

Speaking after the successful attempt, Jokers' Masquerade marketing manager Donna Hougez said: "Jokers' Masquerade thought it would be a great idea to replicate our previous world record success using a Halloween costume for this very topical time of year.

"As Jokers' Masquerade is a fancy dress company, we like to have a bit of fun and thought a room full of over 2,000 dancing skeletons would make for a fantastic sight. It certainly did, and everyone involved can look back with pride that they helped create such a memorable event."

Entertainment on the night was provided by international rock band, Wheatus, and BBC Radio 1 DJ, Matt Edmondson.
