Let me start from the top. When did you first
begin to reduce your waist and what was your
0:09
motivation for that? Actually I first started wearing a
corset, a tight lacing, back actually when I was probably
0:22
18 or 19 and it was mostly because we were
interested in Victorian costuming and if you're
0:31
going to wear a Victorian dress and have it
look appropriate you need to wear the right
0:37
underwear so it was just one thing led to
another and I started wearing a corset to
0:44
make the Victorian dresses look appropriate. Victorian fashion has
kind of had a renaissance of late hasn't it? I believe in the last 10
0:54
or 15 years that fashion has kind
of come back into fashion again
0:59
Yes it has and it's been surprising but there's
been a lot. There were movies that portrayed
1:07
people wearing Victorian clothing, cotton
garments and of course there were people that
1:15
sort of did the outerwear corsets.
Does the corset affect your breathing
1:24
Actually it does not affect my breathing at
all. I've been doing it so long and also just
1:32
started wearing it so slowly, increasing or
decreasing my waist size so gradually that
1:44
I didn't have any issue with breathing. If
you start having breathing issues or any other
1:50
kind of issue it means you're not doing things correctly. I've been wearing
a corset full time probably 45 to 50 years. The first time I wore a corset
2:06
was just for social, fun kind of Victorian
costuming and that was probably when I was
2:17
18 or 19 or even earlier than that. Back in
my early teen years that's when merry widows
2:26
were in style and that was really basically
an elastic garment, more akin to a girdle
2:35
of today. There can't be that many corset makers
left around anymore is that correct or has there
2:42
been a bit of a resurgence in corset fashion? Right now there are
corset makers that don't stop and I think if anybody's interested you
2:52
can go online there are a couple of people
that have documented all the corset makers
2:59
around the world and they
come up in the hundreds
