My name's Pete Collins, and I'm the world record holder for most handstand pushups in three minutes
0:13
I decided to take this record on a long time ago. My parents took me to a circus when I was a little kid
0:18
and I saw handstand pushups being performed there, and couldn't wait to get home and try some myself
0:24
And it's taken lots and lots of years, but after a lot of practice
0:28
I was slowly able to build up the number and it was time to have a crack at the real thing
0:37
I've known about the record for a long time, but it's kept going up every year. You understand, it keeps getting higher and higher
0:42
so I really had to get serious about it. I had to be very strict
0:56
You'll see me in the video watching the timer very closely, and when the stopwatch says to go
1:02
I have to go and hit those reps. For me, part of the motivation too
1:07
came from watching 1980s action hero clips. And so that's been running through my brain
1:12
for a long time, and that's actually really helped. Oh, so technique wise, I've been filming myself
1:20
almost every workout, just to keep a close eye on technique, kind of from front and side angles as well
1:27
So really for me, it started just being able to hold myself
1:31
in a perfect handstand position, but it took a long time to be able to do
1:35
a full handstand pushup. And part of my practice was just holding myself inverted
1:42
for as long as possible, for minutes at a time. I had a lifelong interest in sport in general
1:55
and particularly in gymnastics and strength training. So I spent a lot of my young years
2:00
bouncing around on trampolines, but it's really got more serious about training
2:04
in calisthenics, so bodyweight training. I've been doing that for about 20 years
2:09
pretty seriously now, so it's been a massive part of my life. Go, go, go
2:26
You got this! Three, two, one, stop. It feels amazing to be a Guinness World Records holder
2:43
It's been a lifelong dream of mine for a very long time
2:47
And I got really serious about the training about six months ago, and dedicated myself to my diet
2:53
and to training every day. And I'm really glad to pull it off, because there's a lot that could have happened in between
2:58
So yeah, it's been great. And thanks everyone for the support too
