The Brief
Russell Stover enlisted the help of GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ to create a larger-than-life campaign for their 100th anniversary. They wanted to create a large food item from their product line-up. The company's product line includes everything from boxed chocolates and truffles to sugar-free candy and seasonal treats.
The Solution
Russell Stover celebrated their 100th anniversary in a very large way! On April 17th 2023 they broke the record title for the largest box of chocolates that is based on the brand’s standard 266.48 grams (9.4 oz) box of assorted chocolates.
The massive filled chocolate box weighed 2,547.50 kg (5,616.27 lbs) and measured 9.27 m x 4.69 m x 0.47 m (30.43 ft x 15.41 ft x 1.55 ft). For a sense of perspective, it took about 20 people to lift the 600-pound top on and off the box in order to show the Official Adjudicator that it met the guidelines.
At the Russell Stover plants, 205 giant chocolate pieces were crafted. Each piece of chocolate was weighed during the official attempt, while smaller pieces weighed about 4.53 kg (10 lbs.), some of the biggest ones reached over 16 kg (35 lbs.).
There was no difference in the flavors of chocolates compared to their original boxes. Employees and volunteers were given chocolate pieces as gifts, donated, or raffled off as part of the company's charity partnership with Feed the Children.
Working with the GWR Team was fantastic! Our account manager, Kim guided us through the planning process wonderfully! She made managing the details of the attempt easier and less stressful. I feel like we tried to ‘pre-approved’ almost everything. LOL! Kim was supportive and quick to respond with approval or guidance through every step. Andrew, our GWR Adjudicator was great to work with as well. He identified areas where we needed to be extra diligent and provided valuable guidance in the final days leading up to our attempt. On site, he was all business but also a source of encouragement. It was an amazing experience that I won’t soon forget!
