The Brief
ICC Women’s T20 World Cup (AUS) wanted to raise awareness about the 2020 tournament and try to break the record for largest attendance at a women’s sporting fixture for the women’s final. For the release of the tickets, one year before the event, the committee aimed for buzz and social media engagement.
The Solution
ICC T20 World Cup attempted two record titles: highest catch of a cricket ball and Most signatures on a piece of sports memorabilia. Australian cricketer Alyssa Healy was invited to attempt the highest catch. The response was phenomenal with the video reaching over 10 million views on social media. To get fans actively involved, another record was broken: most signatures on a piece of sports memorabilia with the #BigShirt. Video views across ICC/T20WC and Cricket.com.au channels surpassed over 1 million. There was no better way to get fans excited than breaking two official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ titles!
What better way to tell the story of ambition by attempting and breaking not ONE but TWO GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS titles to raise awareness and inspire people to be part of the T20 World Cup. Guinness World Records ensured we were very clear on requirements to meet our objectives and helped us understand ways to amplify the great stories that came from setting new records. Hopefully, there is one GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title still to be broken at the final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2020
