Iconic Blackpool Pleasure Beach is one of the twenty most-visited amusement parks in the world and is among the UK’s favourite tourist attractions.
Looking for a seaside-themed event that would appeal to a family audience and include fun-filled records to break, the park approached Guinness World Records to bring some record-breaking excitement to Blackpool.
Working closely with the theme park, the Guinness World Records™ project management team created a four-day GWRLive! event
that featured eight different records that met the client’s brief of being ‘fun’ and ‘messy’, including: Tallest stack of doughnuts; Most ice cream eaten in 30 seconds and Most water balloons caught and kept in one minute.
As part of the GWRLive! package, Guinness World Records provided an official adjudicator who was present on site throughout the event and an executive producer to train the park’s team as MC’s and coaches.
Split into morning and afternoon sessions, each day offered two new records for visitors to attempt. At the end of each session, the top scorer for each challenge was given the chance to enter ‘The Champions’ Arena’ for an official record attempt in front of the Guinness World Records adjudicator.
The four-day event proved hugely popular with visitors with hundreds of people trying their hand at becoming a record-breaker, with two new Guinness World Records titles achieved in the process.
