Anyone need a pen? In Gujarat, India, there was no shortage or pens, notebooks, pencils, rulers or any school stationery on 3 December 2018 when Manav Uttham Sewa Samiti collected the largest donation of school supplies in 24 hours.
Manav Utthan Sewa Samiti, at gathers unused resources such medical relief and clean water and then distributes them to people who need them, took a "Robin Hood" approach when it came to the collection of materials.
The slogan for their campaign was: "We are on a drive to collect stationery from privileged society and distribute among needy school children", with the idea being for supplies to be more evenly distributed.
In the end 16,404.53 kg (36,173 lb 8 oz) of school supplies was gathered, taking unused items (such as rulers, notebooks, pens, pencils, erasers, pencil sharpeners, etc) and distributing them between 27 different schools around India. To give you an idea of how much that is, the weight is 6,000 lb more than the weight of Big Ben (the Great Bell in London's Elizabeth Tower).
The founder of the group, Satpalji Maharaj, thought that it would be a great acknowledgement of the hard work and effort tirelessly given by the employees of Manav Utthan Sewa Samiti, to apply for the record title.
