A group of dedicated students from the University of Delhi in India have achieved a Guinness World Records title for constructing the Largest plastic cup pyramid.
The delicate construction collapsed a number of times while the team were practising for the attempt, but the students finally managed to build an enormous 55-layer pyramid consisting of a staggering 56,980 individual cups.
Created at Tyagraj Stadium in New Delhi, India, the record-breaking pyramid measured a huge 21.83 feet tall by 16.78 feet wide.
The attempt was organised and led by 18-year-old economics student Kushagra Tayal, who has dreamed of being a Guinness World Records title holder for many years and has failed a number of record attempts in the past.
Guinness World Records adjudicator Swapnil Dangarikar was on hand to officiate the challenge, which took a number of days to complete.
The steady-handed students were cheered on by a huge group of friends and family, as well as renowned Indian freestyle boxer Sushil Kumar.
Speaking at the event, Kushagra said: “It is indeed a matter of pride for all of us that we have managed to achieve our goal of assembling the world’s largest plastic cup pyramid. What started as a dream long ago, is finally a reality today. I would like to thank each and every member of the team for the support they gave right from the planning stage till today, when we executed our project; my teachers who always believed in my vision; and of course my family who have been supportive for all my endeavours.”
