World’s largest cachupa stew made in Cape Verde

Cape Verde has entered the Guinness World Records archives after beverage manufacturer and distributor Cavibel SA and restaurant owners Grupo Mirage cooked the world's Largest cachupa stew.

The traditional Cape Verdean dish contained more than 600 kg (1,322 lb) of corn, 100 kg (220 lb) of chicken and 300 kg (661 lb) of pork, plus a large variety of beans and vegetables.

Once completed, the food weighed in at a whopping 6,360 kg (14,021 lb).

The event took place at the ninth "Badja ku Sol" festival in Praia, Cape Verde.

Among the guests was Cape Verde’s prime minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, who declared: "We expect it to be a great promotion of Cape Verdean gastronomy – and in particular the cachupa – worldwide. We hope it has a great impact and that through this event we can promote our special and traditional gastronomy that is cachupa and our country."

The event was coordinated by Hernídia Tavares and Christopher Ferreira; after the attempt, the cachupa stew was distributed to more than 30,000 people who were attending.

"We are proud of this achievement and I believe it can be considered an example of the determination of Cape Verdeans people to innovate and to want to be with the best in the world," affirmed the head of Cavibel, Hernidia Tavares.
